Vita Sims
My work captures nature now, recalling my own emotional and sensory memories, realizing that our planet is changing dramatically through climate change and the impact of man on nature. I want to call attention to the outdoors and how critical it is to preserve its beauty. What we take for granted may one day be only a memory.
I brush paint onto paper or canvas, mix colors, develop shapes and build complex textures to recreate a memory of a landscape. I paint intuitively and spontaneously and want the viewer to enter into the painting and feel my emotional experience of nature and the sensory memories of those fleeting moments. My hope is to touch the viewer and help them connect to their own experience of the natural world.
Other ongoing painting projects include: a National Park Series of Paintings and a shoreline series I am working on depicting the ebb and flow of the ocean along the eastern seaboard.
